Join us to celebrate RED’s 25th Anniversary of raising funds to help support those affected by HIV and Homelessness.

In 2024 at RETRO RED 2024:  A DISCO BALL Guests danced their way into the 2024 RED gala honoring the flashy retro fashions of the iconic New York City night club scene!  Held in the glittering Khorassan Ballroom at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel, the event sold out with nearly 500 guests. Mission & History

Since our founding as a hospice in 1988 to serve people dying alone and homeless, abandoned by families, DOORWAYS has evolved to offer six platforms of housing services and remains the only agency dedicated to HIV housing and supportive services.

Our Clients

HIV remains an epidemic among the poor and homeless. Invisible and ignored, our clients lack access to the resources needed to manage an HIV medical regimen. Learn more about them here!

The Jefferson Avenue Campus

With growing numbers of clients and expanding depth and breadth of need, DOORWAYS was out of space with all programs operating out of the assistive living facility Cooper House. Unable to expand to meet urgent life-limiting challenges, the agency launched a capital campaign to build a new campus offering housing with ONSITE services–removing access and navigation barriers!

Transparency

This section provides behind-the-scenes information. Every year DOORWAYS issues an Impact Report highlighting accomplishments and agency advances. Our audited financial reports are also posted for your review, detailing expenses and revenues.

My tenure:

Several years ago, I had the privilege of working for a wonderfully caring nonprofit organization as a nursing care aide. At that time, they were located in the heart of the Central West End, which is now their administrative offices and Cooper House at 4385 Maryland Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108.

During my time there, I met many inspiring residents and dedicated staff. I also witnessed some old friends face end-of-life challenges. My role at Doorways was per diem, and I worked there for about five years.

After a demanding workload, I transitioned to other assignments within my practice. Nevertheless, I will always cherish the memories of the exceptional staff and clients I had the honor to serve. Sadly, many of the residents I knew have passed away, while new individuals arrived and received compassionate care.

Today, the organization’s main campus, which includes emergency and permanent housing, is located separately at 1101 N. Jefferson Ave.
