WHAT:
Sister City Circus Proclamation by Mayor Jones

WHEN: Wednesday August 7, 2024  2PM

WHERE: St. Louis City Hall

For Immediate release

On Wednesday, August 7, at City Hall, Mayor Tishaura Jones will proclaim July 26-August 9 Sister City Circus Days in honor of St. Louis’ Circus Harmony and Stuttgart’s Circus Circuli coming together to tour St. Louis promoting Peace Through Pyramids, Harmony Through Handsprings, and Joy through Juggling! The 22 flying children of the combined troupes intend to put on a sensational circus show for the mayor at City Hall!

Circus Harmony Artistic/Executive Director points out , “Circus is often used as a pejorative when referring to politics. In reality, the world would be a better place if people in politics WERE like a circus and worked together to support each other and build something positive!”  “The Sister City Circus combined troupes show people that when they focus on what connects them, instead of what divides them, they can create something amazing. Watching these gravity-defying, boundary-breaking young people instills hope that anything is possible.”

2020 marked the 60th anniversary of St. Louis and Suttgart being sister cities. Thanks to the St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister City group, students from the circus schools of Circus Harmony and Circus Circuli met online, trained together, and created a video featuring circus arts in both sister cities for the celebration! This video, Sister City Circus, can be found on Circus Harmony’s YouTube page.

The Sister City Circus has been performing at Circus Harmony’s home ring inside City Museum as well as at Ball Park Village (where they also threw out the first pitch form a three man high pyramid), Cherokee Recreation Center, New Piasa Chautauqua in Grafton, Illinois, YMCA Trout Lodge in De Soto and other places around town. The combined troupes will make their last public appearance On Thursday, August 8, at Kiener Plaza as part of Great St. Louis’ Downtown Summer Nights event!

Circus Harmony’s fall circus classes for all ages at City Museum start on August 26 and their free classes at St. Louis City Recreation Centers Start in September. More information is available at www.circusharmony.org.
