Tisha Campbell, Kym Whitley and Yvette Nicole Brown are triple-teaming up for the new Bounce TV comedy series Act Your Age!
The half-hour comedy follows three successful women in their 50s in the Washington D.C./Northern Virginia-area, who find themselves at personal crossroads and decide the best way forward in life is together. Whitley plays Bernadette, a successful, no-nonsense real estate developer. Campbell plays Keisha, the wild card of the group who is always up to something, and Brown plays Angela, the former First Lady of Norfolk, Virginia, who is looking to redefine her life after being widowed by her husband, a revered career politician.
Alyson Fouse who is the creator, showrunner and executive producer of the sitcom spoke about what this rare opportunity of working with the three comedic icons meant to her.
“The opportunity to do Act Your Age with Kym, Tisha and Yvette on Bounce, a network that has made me feel so comfortable being my authentic self, means the world to me,” said Fouse. “We’ve built a world where the stories of Black women in the prime of their lives can be both funny and heartfelt; a world where individually they shine but they also show support for one another. ‘Act Your Age’ is the celebration of Black women who have loved, raised, befriended and have held me up through the years and it honors and salutes the ones that have inspired me. ”
The three starlets are no strangers to leading hit sitcoms. Tisha Campbell, who started her career as a well-known child actor, has dominated television over the last four decades with successful sitcoms such as Rags to Riches, Martin, and My Wife and Kids.
According Bounce and BFTV, the synopsis surrounds Kim Whitley, who has one of the most recognizable wit and comedic timing in the business, is not only a seasoned movie star, but has had her share of string sitcoms as well. Whitley’s TV stardom starts from her scene stealing roles in ‘90s hit shows such as My Brother and Me, The Parenthood, Martin, The Wayans, The Parkers, along with a couple of reality shows.
Yvette Brown has been known for her contribution to the shows such as The War at Home, Girlfriends, Malcolm in the Middle, That’s So Raven, Half & Half, and the American version of The Office. She had a recurring role as movie theater manager Helen Dubois in the Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh.
The 16-episode series will center around Bernadette (Kym Whitley), who lives in a building that she owns located in a trendy D.C. neighborhood surrounded by bars and restaurants. Bernadette becomes friends with Angela (Yvette Nicole Brown) who happens to be the wife of her childhood friend, Davis. Bernadette would meet Keisha prior to Angela on a vacation in the Virgin Islands. Although Angela and Keisha don’t get along, Bernadette acts as the group’s glue. The ladies eventually grow close together as a unit.“Act Your Age” will premiere in the spring of 2023.
