The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a society that was founded in 1975 at Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana. With the Fall regional conferences coming soon, their committent to students is remarkable.

It is one of the largest student-run organizations in the United States, with core activities centered on improving the recruitment and retention of Black and other minority engineers in both academia and industry.

Supporting Black Engineers in
Advocacy, Education and Career Advancement

NSBE is committed to equipping all students and professionals with the technical expertise, leadership skills, and industry connections needed to drive economic and technological progress. As the U.S. talent and consumer market grows more multifaceted and digital transformation accelerates global interconnectivity, the demand for a forward-thinking, solutions-driven workforce has never been greater.

To meet this need, products, services, and the workforce driving their development must be built with a strategic approach that reflects the evolving landscape. NSBE plays a vital role in this reality by ensuring Black engineers—long at the intersection of cultural and STEM innovation—have access to the education and opportunities necessary to help shape the industries of tomorrow. While we welcome all, our focus on empowering Black engineers goes beyond representation; it is about contributing to the future success of institutions across academia, corporate sectors, and society as a whole.

  • NSBE is a vital partner in developing and connecting top engineering talent to meet the demands of an increasingly multifaceted and global industry.
  • We stand committed to working within institutional policies to ensure that NSBE chapters remain operational and accessible to all students interested in STEM.
  • We remain a place of empowerment, growth, and opportunity for the engineering community seeking to make an impact.

Mission

To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.™

Vision

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Black people exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.

Fall Regional Conference

NSBE Fall Regional Conferences (FRCs) provide your organization with the opportunity to source candidates on a local level and help fulfill your fall recruitment needs. Combining education, networking and job opportunities, FRCs offer the chance to recruit Black Engineers from your regional communities.

Each FRC includes a Career Fair, which enables organizations to recruit bright, diverse talent in engineering and other STEM fields. These unique, region-targeted events are the perfect place to match qualified candidates with your open jobs and internships on a national level, as well as at your regional and district offices. The Career Fair enables students to find local employment opportunities and are ideal for local employers looking to recruit top talent.

Why #NSBE2025

The 2025 Annual Convention is a four-day event with an anticipated 15,000 attendees, 400-plus Career Fair exhibitors and 5,000-plus NSBE members and others at the Opening, General and Closing Sessions. During the Annual Convention, the Society conducts organizational business, elects national and regional leaders, holds competitions and provides professional and personal development, networking and celebratory activities.
