The first set of performers have been announced for the 9th annual Black Music Honors taking place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA, on Saturday (May 18).

Co-hosted by LeToya Luckett and DeRay Davis, musical guests will include BLK ODYSSY, Chanté Moore, Donald Lawrence, Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, Ricky Dillard, MonoNeon, Shanice, The Chi (Carl Thomas, Dave Hollister & Syleena Johnson), and Tone Stith. This year’s ceremony will also honor coveted musicians Johnny Gill, Patrice Rushen, Bootsy Collins, and Hezekiah Walker.

“For the past 9 years, Black Music Honors has surrounded and supported the amazing artists who have entertained millions. This year’s celebrants are trailblazers and deserve to be honored,” states Founder and Executive Producer, Don Jackson. “We are extremely proud to bring more visibility to these tremendous icons who have stayed the course from humble beginnings to careers that span decades. Their lives and stories are part of the beautiful tapestry of Black music… which has impacted the globe.”

For one night, contributors to the Black musical culture will be “highlighted and celebrated” for their illustrious achievements and more. The streamed event will see unforgettable performances, heartfelt speeches, and timeless memories.

Last year, the show honored Missy Elliott, SWV, Evelyn “Champagne” King, and Jeffrey Osborne, and included performances from Anthony Hamilton, Robin Thicke, Sevyn Streeter, Jacquees, Queen Naija, David Banner, Juvenile, The Shindellas, 702, and others.

Some of the highlights from 2023 were Sevyn, Lil’ Mo, and Sheléa paying tribute to SWV with a rendition of “Weak;” Elliott accepting the Innovator Award and performing with Tweet and Lady Wray; Juvenile taking the stage to perform “Slow Motion;” and Jacquees and Queen Naija’s duet of SWV’s “You’re Always On My Mind.”

This year, the Black Music Honors will return to the Stellar Network, airing on Saturday (June 1) at 8 PM ET in honor of Black Music Month.
