The Mumbai Entertainment International Film Festival hosted its annual awards ceremony in India on December 12, 2021. Among the festival’s selections was an American short film titled Let the Beats Get You Started.

Created, executive produced, and directed by Rodney Maurice, an Independent Promoter /Content Icon from St. Louis, Missouri. The series was also co-produced by Dynasty Television. And for its first season, the show comprised of eight episodes.

Featuring a cast of seven hip-hop and R&B artists: Feva, Ain’t EZ, Buzz the Navigator, Mookie Tolliver, Rickey James, J-Streetz, and Cookie Natari. Originally, there were eight members, but one had to leave due to an emergency.

The participants were provided with beats and tasked with adding their own lyrics. Subsequently, they performed in front of judges chosen randomly.

Several beat makers and independent producers supplied the music for the contestants. The cast met the judges and crew during the filming of the first episode on September 18, 2016.

Then after that, Episode 2 was filmed at a local beat maker’s garage studio and was the only episode available after the season concluded. Fortunately, Hosea Baldwin, one of the on-duty videographers from Illinois, was able to save the files, preserving only that specific content.

In addition, the season finale was shot at Back Street Jazz & Blues Club in suburban St. Louis, Missouri. In which the taping coincided with the town’s annual ReMix Awards Show and took place on a chilly December 20, 2016.

Rapper Feva and R&B crooner Mookie Tolliver got the first set of awards for their stage performances. Likely so, after tabbing the most votes throughout the season.

Finally, as a result of the previous computer crash, several key scenes were lost, leading to the cancellation of the series production. Although there was an opportunity to revise and continue production, the arrival of COVID-19 halted those plans.
