The African American Museum of the Arts Inc. has announced that it has received nearly $1 million in grant funds from Florida’s Department of State and Volusia County’s ECHO Program. This funding will be used to renovate the current museum building and construct a new, expanded facility at 325 S. Clara Ave. in DeLand.
The new building will include a welcome desk, gift store, multiple gallery spaces, a multipurpose meeting room, a library focusing on Black art and culture, ADA-compliant restrooms, and additional storage and catering space. The current museum, housed in an 800-square-foot building, will also undergo renovations.

CPH has been chosen as the design firm for the project, with the Project Advisory Committee led by Reginald Williams, Board Chair, and Keith Riger, a retired civil engineer for the City of DeLand.
