About Black Men Read

The organization operates as a transformative initiative dedicated to improving literacy and social awareness among Black men and underserved communities. Through programs like tutoring, book clubs, and community events, the organization strives to inspire a love for reading and empower young minds.

During the 2023–24 school year, they made a significant impact by tutoring students at Barack Obama Elementary School. Moreover, they hosted a summer reading program that supported dozens of K–5 students. Their mission focuses on improving literacy outcomes by increasing access to books, providing high-quality reading support, and showcasing Black men as readers, mentors, and leaders.

Why Literacy Matters

In a city where literacy rates directly influence long-term opportunities, Black Men Read actively commits to bridging the gap. By promoting the joy of reading and representation, they open doors to brighter futures for children and the community.
