Hidden Healers: A Celebration of Historical Black Figures in Medicine: Dr. Bettye Washington Greene

Dr. Bettye Washington Greene was a pioneering industrial chemist. Her important research made aerosolized products, including substances that people breathe in, much safer. Specifically, by studying how to make polymers stable, she helped lower the risks of exposure to harmful toxins. Consequently, her work helped shape safety standards across many industries.

Furthermore, her efforts led to safer systems for delivering medicines and better protections for consumers. In short, Dr. Greene quietly improved environmental and workplace health practices that touch the lives of millions of Americans every day.
