Hidden Healers: A Celebration of Historical Black Figures in Medicine: Mabel Keaton Staupers (1890–1989)

Mabel Keaton Staupers was a key figure who successfully led the effort to integrate Black nurses into the U.S. military and public health systems. Consequently, her advocacy helped expand the nursing workforce during critical times. Furthermore, it strengthened professional nursing standards across the country.

Modern efforts to promote diversity and fairness in nursing can be traced directly back to her important leadership.
