Hidden Healers: A Celebration of Historical Black Figures in Medicine: Dr. Sadye Logan, DSW. LISW-CP, ACSW
Dr. Sadye Logan was a pioneer in combining social work principles with public health practices. She emphasized how health outcomes are deeply affected by factors such as housing stability, economic opportunities, education, and family support. Even before the term “social determinants of health” became widely recognized, Logan developed community-based models that treated social conditions as key health interventions.
Consequently, her work played a major role in shaping public health training programs. It also encouraged a shift in healthcare toward more holistic and community-centered approaches.
