Hidden Healers: A Celebration of Historical Black Figures in Medicine: Dr. Yvonne Maddox
Dr. Yvonne Maddox significantly influenced national research priorities in maternal, child, and adolescent health during her leadership at the National Institutes of Health.
Through her efforts, she directed federal investments toward better understanding birth outcomes, developmental disparities, and the long-term health effects of early-life conditions. As a result, her work ensured that scientific research led to real-world improvements for families, especially those historically underrepresented in clinical studies.
