The NBA Finals will continue, as the San Antonio Spurs secured their first win on Monday. They beat the New York Knicks on the road, and now, the series is 2-1. New York won the first two games, but San Antonio avoided the sweep with their recent win. So, this series will last at least five games.

The matchup between these two teams has not disappointed, and the teams’ stars are playing at a high level. Then, once it is all said and done, the league will have a new champion. There will also be a new Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP), and last year, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won it. This year, there are a few contenders, and now is a prime time to recognize them. With that said, here are three players who could win Finals MVP.

1.) Jalen Brunson

Jalen Brunson has had a strong playoff run, and he continues to lead his team to victory. He is averaging 26.9 points, 6.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals. He has put up big numbers throughout the playoffs, and so far, his best game in the ongoing series was his 32-point outing in Game 3. The Knicks lost that game, but Brunson’s scoring kept them in the game.

New York’s star guard has been the leader the franchise needs, and his hard work is paying off. If the Knicks win it all, Brunson will undoubtedly play a big role in their success.

2.) Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns is a veteran big who is seeking his first championship. He started his career in 2015, and he played for the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2024, he joined the Knicks in 2024, and he helped them become legitimate contenders. During this series, he has had some solid games, but a big game from Towns could put his team over the top. If Towns ends the series on a high note and plays well on both ends of the floor, he could take home the award. If he or Brunson does so, they will join Knicks legend Willis Reed.

3.) Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama is one of the league’s new stars. He won Rookie of the Year in 2024, and he averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists that season. He continues to climb, and this year, he won Defensive Player of the Year. The young star has a chance to add to his resume, and if the Spurs win, he will join Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard as the franchise’s Finals MVPs. So far, Wembanyama is off to a good start, as he had 32 points in San Antonio’s win. His playoff run has been exceptional, and regardless of what happens this season, a championship is within reach.

Winning a championship is not easy, and it takes a special player to put a team over the top. All three of these players are capable of taking over the series, and when all is said and done, either the Knicks or the Spurs will add to their legacies.
