Healthy Eating After the Holidays: A Guide to Post-Holiday Health
While I hope you enjoyed the holiday break, we must face facts. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations are over. It is time to go back to eating according to your diet plan. If you were not on a health and fitness plan before the holidays, please do not wait. Start eating healthier now. Your body and family need you to make a permanent change today. Your God commands you to eat and drink for His glory right now not tomorrow (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Breaking the Cycle of Holiday Indulgence
I know the struggle. Ignoring tasty holiday leftovers to permanently change unhealthy habits is hard. One year, my oldest son was literally in tears. We told him he could no longer eat the food permitted during Thanksgiving dinner. But he had to learn a tough lesson. Although food is part of the holiday celebration, we should not eat unhealthy foods when the celebration ends.
Unfortunately, most people do not learn this when they are young. They use the excuse that Christmas is right around the corner to keep indulging. They eat unhealthy foods and beverages throughout the entire holiday season. Some people do not stop until the new year begins. Even then, they often only pause briefly. This pause usually comes from a half-hearted resolution they already know they will not keep.
A Biblical Approach to Health
It is time to stop making Thanksgiving last until the new year begins. Do not resume unhealthy eating habits a week after making a New Year’s Resolution.
