A Final Call: A Call to Responsible Manhood
There are moments in life that transcend routine gatherings or simple events. These moments summon us, unsettle us, and demand something greater. Such was the case recently in Chicago at Mosque Maryam, where a final call to men was issued by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. This was not just a meeting; it was a divine call to action, supported by devoted leaders like Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad, Supreme Captain Mustapha Farrakhan, and Grandmaster Abdul Aziz.
This call reverberated far beyond the walls of Mosque Maryam, reaching mosques across the country, including Mosque No. 28 in St. Louis. It stirred the spirit of men in the Nation of Islam and the broader Black community, both in America and abroad.
The Divine Call Across Scriptures
At the heart of this moment is the divine call itself, a theme echoed across major scriptures. The Holy Qur’an commands in Surah 8:24:
“O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls you to that which gives you life.”
This is not merely a call to exist but to rise into a life of purpose, discipline, and moral clarity. Similarly, the Bible in Isaiah 6:8 records:
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
The Torah echoes this in Exodus 19:5:
“If you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you shall be My treasured possession among all peoples.”
Across these texts, the message is clear: God calls us upward, while fear and comfort pull us down.
The Struggle to Rise
The struggle to rise above passivity is as relevant today as it was in ancient times. The Qur’an asks in Surah 9:38:
“What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, you cling heavily to the earth?”
The Bible parallels this in Judges 18:9:
“Do not hesitate to go… for God has put the land into your hands.”
This call to action was powerfully demonstrated in Chicago, where men of all faiths and backgrounds—Christians, Muslims, Hebrews, Moors, spiritual seekers, street brothers, elders, and youth—stood united.
A Sacred Gathering at Mosque Maryam
Inside Mosque Maryam, something sacred unfolded. This was not merely a Muslim meeting; it was a manhood meeting embraced by many. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, at 91 years old, stood as a father, guide, shepherd, warner, and healer.
He reminded us:
“We must rediscover the God in ourselves, for God is love—and if you don’t have love, you don’t have God.”
This profound statement placed disciplined, courageous, and selfless love at the center of manhood.
Answering the Call to Action
Answering this final call to men requires action:
- Strengthen spiritual lives.
- Father children with presence and guidance.
- Support and protect women.
- Rebuild communities through mentorship, service, and leadership.
- Build economic stability through work, saving, and investing.
- Reject division, ego, and envy among men.
- Seek personal healing through brotherhood, therapy, and forgiveness.
The scriptures challenge us to act. Isaiah 1:17 commands:
“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.”
Joshua 1:9 urges:
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Will You Answer the Call?
The call has been issued—from God, scripture, the Minister, our families, and the condition of our communities. The question is simple: Will we answer?
For those ready to take the next step, the Nation of Islam hosts a nationwide men’s meeting every Monday at 7:30 PM at NOI.org, with local participation at Mosque No. 28 in St. Louis.
