With over 170 film and television credits to his name, James DuMont has become one of the most consistent, hardworking, and versatile actors in and out of Hollywood. From streaming giants like Netflix and Apple TV+ to major networks like CBS and NBC, DuMont’s presence is everywhere—on hit series such as Stranger Things, Magnum P.I., 24, and even Jurassic World. But now, he’s back in the spotlight with his latest thriller, Unit 234—and it’s already earning gasps and applause.

Back in Action in Unit 234

DuMont stars alongside Don Johnson, Isabelle Fuhrman, and Jack Huston in Unit 234, a taut and tightly wound thriller that’s now available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime pay-per-view. The story centers on a chilling scenario: after the discovery of an unconscious man locked inside a storage unit, a lone employee must survive the night against a violent gang determined to retrieve their precious cargo—at any cost.

Unit 234 was great,” DuMont says. “I instantly got along with the cast. The story is so tight and full of twists. That’s what separates it from other thrillers—it’s taut, it’s smart, and it works on so many levels.”

DuMont revealed that midway through filming, he contracted COVID-19. “I was in a five-star hotel, getting paid with room service, and I was literally sick for only a day,” he says, laughing. “But they had to keep me until I cleared. By day five, I was getting restless, like, ‘Am I ever getting out of here?’ But once we got back on set, it was amazing.” He later attended the premiere and was delighted by the audience’s reactions. “I heard the gasps. They loved every part of it. It’s definitely a film that keeps you on the edge of your seat.”

A Christmas Hit and a Hollywood Bond

Since the last time we spoke, DuMont also reflected on his role in the Eddie Murphy-led holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane. “That residual check was very nice,” he joked. “But for real, we had a great time. It was the feel-good Christmas movie we wanted to make, and we succeeded. The premiere in Los Angeles was fantastic—and it solidified my relationship with Reginald Hudlin, which is big.”

Playing a Real-Life Detective in American Sports Story

DuMont continues his streak of strong performances with his portrayal of the detective who prosecuted former NFL player Aaron Hernandez in FX’s highly anticipated series American Sports Story. He stars opposite Josh Rivera in what marks his third collaboration with acclaimed producer Ryan Murphy.

“That one was a really great experience,” DuMont shares. “I never got to meet the actual detective, but I did my own interpretation. I actually submitted my audition just an hour before the writers’ strike began. I didn’t hear back for six months. Then around Christmas, they called to check my availability, and I filmed in February. The performances in that project are phenomenal.”

Working With Legends

Beyond Unit 234, DuMont’s filmography continues to impress. He co-starred in Apple TV’s The Banker, acting alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, and Nicholas Hoult. Whether he’s playing a powerful supporting role or leading the scene with quiet intensity, DuMont brings depth and presence to every frame.
