1. Tour a Stadium
Take a behind the scenes tours of Comerica Park, Ford Field or Little Caesars Arena. Learn about the history of the venue and teams while getting an up-close look at the facilities the pros use. Tour dates and times are different for each venue so check out their websites for the details. You might even be able to catch a tour on certain game days before the game.
2. Sports Themed Eats
Hockeytown Cafe is the perfect place for sports fans to grab a bite. Check out the Tigers and Red Wings Hall of Fame and custom motorcycles on display. Want to get in on the fun yourself? Check out Detroit’s semi-pro American Soccer Club (set to join the professional ranks in 2020) that plays in the National Premier Soccer League. This Hamtramck hang out has one of the most exciting match atmospheres in North America and consistently has sold-out games.
4. Detroit Cricket League
Catch one of the many cricket games happening around the city. With over 30 teams in the league, it’s not difficult to find one.
5. Vintage Baseball at Greenfield Village
What was baseball like in 1867? Watch a game throughout the summer at Greenfield Village to find out. The uniforms, equipment and umpiring reflect that of 1867. Baseball was a simpler sport back then, with rivalries between local towns. Games are included with admission to the village.
6. Check out a College Game

7. Monument to Joe Louis
The Monument to Joe Louis is a large statue of a fist pointing toward Canada. The piece of art was a gift from Sports Illustrated Magazine to the City of Detroit in 1986. The statue was commissioned to commemorate the 1938 fight between Louis and German boxer Max Schmeling. The fight took place during World War II and Louis’s win was considered a moral victory for America during the war.
8. Jimmy John’s Field
Check out the United Shore Professional Baseball League at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica. Every weekend four of the league’s team play at the field. The players are top athletes who are hoping to make it to the major league and since 2016, 27 players have done just that. Players and coaches are available after the game for pictures and autographs and kids get to run the bases.
