How St. Louis 311 is Improving Neighborhoods and Connecting Residents

St. Louis, MO — The City of St. Louis is celebrating the impact of its 311 service on March 11 (3/11). This system has transformed how residents access City services and connect with local government. Since its launch last year, the 311 service has become a vital tool for reporting issues, requesting services, and staying informed about City programs.

Making City Services Accessible to All

The 311 service provides a simple and convenient way for residents to connect with City departments. By dialing 311, those within City limits can reach trained staff at the Citizens’ Service Bureau (CSB). These staff members assist with service requests and direct concerns to the appropriate departments. For residents outside City limits, the service is still accessible by calling 314-622-4800.

This streamlined system has made it easier to report issues like potholes, broken streetlights, and trash collection concerns. As a result, neighborhoods are safer, cleaner, and more vibrant.

Residents See Real Benefits from 311

“Launching 311 is about making City government more accessible and responsive to the people we serve,” said Mayor Cara Spencer. “Residents deserve a simple way to get help, report concerns, and stay connected to the services that keep our neighborhoods strong.”

Karen Clifford, Acting Director of the Department of Neighborhood Stabilization, emphasized the system’s impact. She stated, “311 has strengthened how we respond to the everyday concerns that matter most to residents. By creating a single, easy-to-remember number, we’ve made it simpler for people to report problems, request services, and stay engaged with their neighborhoods.”

Strengthening Neighborhoods Through Better Communication

The 311 service has not only improved how requests are received and addressed but has also fostered a stronger sense of community. By giving residents a direct line to City Hall, the system empowers them to take an active role in maintaining and improving their neighborhoods.

Whether it’s reporting illegal dumping, requesting tree trimming, or inquiring about City programs, 311 ensures that residents’ voices are heard. Additionally, their concerns are addressed promptly, which builds trust and engagement.
