We all know next month is the month for horror films, but September is the kick off stage. With that being said, I have a good one that you all probably will line up to see. Freestyle Digital Media has just released the psychological thriller UNHOLY COMMUNION, now available to rent/own in North American territories on digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, starting September 5, 2025
And for all you Catholics, like myself, I am hoping you won’t get offended, because this film is not for everyone. However, horror and thriller fans will love it. I am shaken in my seat now just writing this review.

Unholy Communion:
“Unholy Communion” is a gripping thriller that follows Officer Chris Majek as he investigates a series of brutal priest murders in rural Minnesota. The story begins with the discovery of a Catholic priest shot in the head, with the Latin phrase “primum mysterium” (first mystery) scrawled nearby. As the body count rises—each victim a former offender of clergy abuse who had been discreetly relocated by the Church—Majek uncovers unsettling secrets that threaten to expose the town’s dark past.
The investigation leads him to Dr. Paul Thomas, the beloved town dentist and his close friend, who becomes entangled in the mystery. As Chris delves deeper, he must confront not only the sinister truths behind the murders but also his own personal history, ultimately questioning the nature of guilt, complicity, and redemption.
Based on Dr. Thomas Rumreich’s novel, “Unholy Communion” was written and directed by Patrick Coyle (known for “Into Temptation”) and features a talented cast including Adam Bartley (“Longmire”), Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”), Iréna Flury (“I Am From Austria”), and Laura Robards (“Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point”).
Reflecting on the adaptation, filmmaker Patrick Coyle shared, “When Dr. Thomas Rumreich asked me to adapt his novel, he told me just one thing: ‘it’s dark.’ So I braced myself. But what he didn’t tell me was that it’s also funny and full of humanity—which is my kind of story. It’s been an honor bringing Thomas’ deeply personal story into the light of day.”
