I haven’t had the chance to watch a Memphis Grizzlies game yet, nor have I checked out Memphis designer Prep Curry’s work. However, his story recently came across my desk, and it immediately caught my attention. I’ve been passionate about fashion since I was a young child, often making shirts for my teddy bears out of old towels and T-shirts. Of course, I faced a few little punishments for ripping up my mom’s best linens, but at least my toys stayed warm during the winter.

Anyway, Prep Curry’s collaboration with the NBA’s Grizzlies is quite exciting, so I did some research to learn more. Here’s what I found out. Let’s take a look, and hopefully when I watch the team play, I’ll spot a bit of his work on display.

Memphis-based designer Prep Curry is set to debut his third official collaboration with the Memphis Grizzlies during the upcoming Grit x Art: The Musical Fashion Show + After Party on March 8 in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood. The event will feature a special appearance by actor Lance Gross, renowned for his role on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Attendees will get an exclusive first look at Curry’s limited-edition “3 Peat” collection on the runway, ahead of its official release on March 27 at FedExForum.

This limited-edition streetwear capsule is part of the Grizzlies’ 191 Collabs program, presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners. The initiative partners with local designers to create unique merchandise, which is sold at select games throughout the season. Curry’s third collaboration under this program highlights the increasing influence of Memphis creatives within one of the city’s most prominent sports and retail platforms. “This isn’t just about clothes,” Curry shares. “It’s about proving that Memphis creatives belong in every space—from the runway to the arena.”

Taking place in North Memphis’ Hyde Park, an area rich in history and cultural significance, this year’s event underscores a broader commitment to community access and creative investment. Once a thriving African American community shaped by segregation and later impacted by disinvestment, Hyde Park now serves as a vibrant backdrop for this dynamic production, expected to draw over 2,000 attendees. “Most of us don’t have huge budgets,” Curry explains. “I want to show that you can still create something powerful with what you have.”

Beyond Curry’s Grizzlies reveal, the runway will showcase local streetwear designer Black Cholo of Immortal Ink, whose pieces have been worn by artists like GloRilla, Key Glock, and NLE Choppa, as well as internationally acclaimed designer Korto Momolu, known for her work on Project Runway. Actor Lance Gross will also make a special appearance, adding star power to the event.

Blending fashion, music, and sports, Grit x Art highlights Memphis’ emerging fashion scene alongside the city’s cultural giants—offering a sneak peek of the “3 Peat” collection before its official debut at FedExForum.
