NEW YORK, NY | 7.28.2025 – The last place veteran stage and screen actor CCH Pounder imagined sheʼd be at this point in her illustrious career, starring in The Naked Gun. Playing Chief Davis oppositeLiam Neesonʼs zany character (Frank Drebin, Jr.), it took a bit of creative persuasion to get Pounder to join the cast. However, for the multiplatinum rapper and Hip Hop icon, Busta Rhymes canʼt wait to start shooting the next Naked Gun. We caught-up with the actor and rapper at the New York premiere of The Naked Gun.
What if you remixed Neesonʼs character in Taken (Brian Mills) with Leslie Nielsenʼs character from Police Squad (OG Frank Drebin), you get a “very particular set of skills, acquired over a long career,” to help revive a franchise from a bygone era, The Naked Gun. The originals are classics, comedy gold created when modern sensitivities were far more liberal–to say the least. Nielsenʼs bumbling band of officers in Police Squad (1982), and the filmʼs sexual undertones are representative of late 70s and 80s comedy movies.
The new The Naked Gun, appears to continue pushing the creative envelope. The only question that remains is will this reboot find a new faithful following.
