Last year’s postponement of the Olympics has brought some excitement towards the 29th edition of the modern Olympic Games that will happen in Tokyo, Japan, on 24th July.
There will be more than eleven thousand athletes from two hundred and six nations and will be involved in thirty-three sports. There are five additional features, including baseball, karate, surfing, sport climbing, and skateboarding, that will happen for the first time.
However, there is a team that will represent the USA in the Olympics. The following are the best teams that will represent the USA at the Tokyo Olympics.
The swimming team is the best team to represent the USA in Olympics. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the men’s team won five individual gold medals and a total of fourteen medals.
Caeleb Dressel, who was a gold medalist in 2016, will participate in the Tokyo Olympics and will be facing experienced competitors, including Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri. Caeleb Dressel, 24, a specialist in the freestyle and butterfly sprint events, made his debut in Rio when he won two gold medals in the 4*100 freestyle and 4*100 medley.
After beating Michael Phelps’s world record in the 100-meter butterfly, he is expected to win in the 100-meter freestyle, fifty-meter freestyle, and 100-meter butterfly. Another USA medal hopeful in the swimming team is Simone Manuel.
The 24-year-old won two gold and two silvers in the Rio Olympics. Manuel dominated the one hundred-meter freestyle back in 2016 and became the first black woman to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming.
Track and field
The USA track and field team going to Tokyo is strong. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, they won thirty-two track and field medals that recorded the highest since 1932. The team going to Tokyo has more emerging talent and is more potent.
The women’s team is one of the strongest teams, with Sydney McLaughin and Dalilah Muhammad, who won a gold medal in Rio, making the women’s team. In 2016, Dalilah Mohammad, 31, was the first American woman to earn gold in the 400-meter hurdles. She then went on to break the world record in the 2019 U.S championships.
She is potentially the first woman in history to win back-to-back gold medals in the Tokyo Olympics. The men’s team will also be represented by Noah Lyles, 24, who has become one of the best in the 200-meter runners. He has won in this category since June 2016. He is the fourth fastest man after Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, and Michael Johnson.
This makes the track and field team the best to represent the U.S. in Tokyo Olympics.
The USA gymnastics team is one of the best in the Tokyo Olympics. The USA women’s team won the gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
As expected, the team will be led by the reigning champion Simone Biles. The 24-year-old gymnastic legend will participate in the Tokyo Olympics on the floor, beam, vault, and uneven bars. She has ten world championship gold medals, with the highest international gold medals among female gymnasts.
Despite this year’s team facing competition for Netherlands and Germany, the team is expected to win. The team has extra individual specialists meaning there are some chances up for grabs. The team has Sam Mikulak, 28, a six-time national champion in the all-around and four-time U.S champion in the high bar.
In Tokyo, he will be participating in what would most likely be his last before retirement.
