Holistic daily reset for spirit, mind, and body wellness
When I hear the word “reset” these days, I donât think âstart over.â I think return.
- Return to what centers you.
- Return to what strengthens you.
- Return to what makes you steady enough to handle whatever the day throws your wayâwithout breaking stride.
In todayâs fast-paced world, weâre not just managing days; weâre managing speed, change, and the unexpected. So, when I say âreset,â Iâm really asking:
- How do you start your day?
- How do you plan your week?
- How do you stay ready to pivot without losing your balance?
And if life does make you sweat, do you have a reset to return to?
The Power of a Reset
This question has been on my mind for a while, especially as Iâve hosted The Inclusive Voice radio show on Chicago Progressive Talk WCPT 820 AM for five years. Thatâs five years of conversations, listening, and witnessing what people carry.
Through these conversations, I started asking guestsâand even people in my personal lifeâhow they stay well: mentally, physically, and spiritually.
The answers revealed a pattern:
- Mental resets: âI meditate.â âI journal.â âI protect my peace.â
- Physical resets: âI walk.â âI work out.â âI stretch.â
- Spiritual resets: Faith, prayer, music, nature, stillness, or community.
The language varied, but the message was clear: people who thrive have something they return to.
That âreturnâ is the reset.
My Non-Negotiable Daily Reset
As Iâve grown olderâand, letâs be honest, more protective of my energyâIâve created a non-negotiable daily reset.
Why non-negotiable? Because too many of us treat wellness like a luxury. We think weâll get to it after the work is done, the kids are handled, or the emails are answered.
Hereâs the truth: the day is not going to calm down.
You have to calm yourself down. You have to build something strong enough to hold you steady. And for me, that reset is holisticâspirit, mind, and body.

Spirit: Morning Devotion
Every morning, I start with prayer, song, and scripture. This is my foundation. Itâs where I remember who I am and whose I am. On heavy days, this practice helps me put my feet on the floor and face the day with courage and perspective.
Body: Planned Movement
Movement is non-negotiable. For me, itâs a planned workoutâscheduled and accounted for. My body keeps receipts, and if I ignore it, I pay the price with stiffness, fatigue, and stress. Movement clears the fog, changes my chemistry, and reminds me Iâm alive.
Mind: Meditation
Mental wellness isnât just âthinking positive.â Itâs training your mind to pause, breathe, and release what you donât need to carry. Meditation helps me stop reacting like everything is an emergency and respond with clarity and calm.
Adapting Your Reset Over Time
My reset today looks different than it did years ago. Back then, it was tennisâtwo hours a day, every day. It gave me discipline, community, and joy.
Now, my reset is more frequent and holistic because life is fuller, responsibilities are heavier, and the world is faster.
Sometimes, I need a midday reset:
- A whispered prayer in the car.
- A stretch break between meetings.
- A short walk around the block.
- A moment of stillness before walking into my house, so I donât bring the dayâs stress home.
Reset Means Youâre Paying Attention
Some people think needing a reset means youâve failed. Thatâs not true.
- Reset means youâre paying attention.
- Reset means youâre choosing yourself on purpose.
- Reset means youâre refusing to live on empty.
Your Action Plan: Build Your Reset Today
Hereâs a simple exercise to create your own resetâno pressure, no perfection.
- Write down your three-part reset:
- Spirit: What connects you to meaning? (e.g., prayer, music, nature, gratitude)
- Mind: What clears your mental clutter? (e.g., journaling, meditation, silence)
- Body: What moves you physically? (e.g., walking, yoga, dancing)
- Make it non-negotiable for seven days.
Start smallâ10 minutes per category is enough. Consistency beats intensity every time. - Create a midday reset plan.
Decide now: when your day goes sideways, whatâs your reset? A quick prayer? A lap around the building? Two minutes of breathing?
Final Thoughts
Your reset doesnât have to look like mine, but you do need one. In a world that keeps shifting, the people who stay standing arenât the ones who never get knocked off balance. Theyâre the ones who know how to return.
Thatâs the reset.
