January has been a great month for African American films. The next Black film will keep you on the edge of your seat. The new film to hit the streaming service is “Sick.” As the pandemic steadily brings the world to a halt, Parker and her best friend Miri decide to quarantine at the family lake house alone—or so they think. Sick is a phenomenal horror film that touches on the Pandemic that has plagued society.
Sick show its audience that there are still things scarier than COVID. Directed by John Hyams, with a great ensemble cast starring Gideon Adlon, Jane Adams, Marc Menchaca, and Dylan Sprayberry,
There are plenty of twists and turns and dark humor pertaining to COVID-19 such as toilet paper shortages and refusing to assist someone in a life or death instance because they aren’t wearing a mask. In the film, people scrub down groceries with wipes. There are numerous moments in the movie that are reminders of how society reacted to the virus when COVID was at an all-time high.
From my review, the payoffs are actually rewarding with a vengeance and a twisted sense of justice. These and more social injustice topics save this film from being just another horror film. It’s one of the better movies out there that will keep you wanting to watch more.
