For Immediate Release

The Ethical Society of Police (ESOP) recognizes the settlement involving Chief Troy Doyle and the broader history of litigation involving the St. Louis County Police Department as an opportunity for growth, progress and positive change.

ESOP is encouraged by the opportunity to continue to work collaboratively with the department’s current leadership to strengthen trust, promote fairness and foster a culture of accountability and mutual respect. While court settlements do not automatically establish wrongdoing, litigation involving allegations of racial discrimination and retaliation highlights the importance of continued dialogue, meaningful evaluation and a shared commitment to ensuring equitable treatment for all employees.

We are committed to continued work with the department’s leadership to build on past lessons and move forward with a renewed focus on transparency, inclusion and organizational improvement. Through open communication, collaborative problem-solving and consistent accountability, meaningful cultural change is achievable.

ESOP remains committed to working alongside department leadership to support positive reforms that benefit all department members and the communities they serve. Our shared goal should be a police department where every employee is treated fairly, concerns are addressed constructively, and trust is strengthened through action. Together, we can help build a stronger organization and reduce the circumstances that lead to costly litigation.
