Discover the thrill as colt Hedge Ratio, backed by MyRacehorse, prepares to race in the St. Louis Derby at Fairmont Park this Saturday.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to share with readers my lifelong love for horses. Ever since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, I’ve admired these majestic animals. My mom recalls how I would hang out the car window as we drove down country roads heading to visit relatives in Mississippi, mesmerized by horses chasing cows across the pasture, with cowboys guiding them along.

One vivid memory I cherish is receiving a black plastic Stallion for Christmas. Over the years, it cracked after I accidentally dropped it, but I kept taping it back together for years until I eventually forgot about it. My passion for horses persisted into adulthood.
I even became a co-owner of a beautiful racehorse named Chasing Time through MyRacehorse. After a few races won, along with some injuries and just feeling tired, Chasing Time was sold outright by an independent owner. We received our share of the proceeds, but I never had the chance to invest again.
I was thrilled to receive news from MyRacehorse about an upcoming race, featuring one of their own Colt Hedge Ratio, right in my hometown. The St. Louis Derby will be held at Fairmont Park in Illinois, just minutes from the Gateway Arch and downtown St. Louis. (For more info click the link above)

Hedge Ratio is entered in the $250,000 St. Louis Derby on August 29, and trainer Wesley Ward couldn’t be more excited for the colt’s first start since joining his barn.
He was assigned morning line odds of 3-1 in a quality field which includes Blackout Time, a Grade 1-placed colt who spent his early 3-year-old campaign on the Kentucky Derby trail; and Preakness starter The Hell We Did.

The colt goes into Saturday’s race off his best work yet for Ward, covering five furlongs in a bullet 1:00.4 at Keeneland. Breezing on the outside, the son of Speightstown drew clear from his workmate in the stretch and followed up with a strong gallop out.
Hedge Ratio has already shown what he’s capable of on the track. He earned a career-best 100 Beyer Speed Figure winning at Aqueduct in March, finishing 12 ¼ lengths clear of the third-place finisher. From there, he moved straight into stakes company, taking the Long Branch S. at Monmouth Park.
That record is what brought MyRacehorse and Wesley Ward together on the colt. We landed Hedge Ratio for $500K at the Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age sale—the second-highest price of the auction—where Ward called him the horse he wouldn’t leave the sale without.
Ward heads into Saturday’s race with serious momentum for the MyRacehorse stable, as Bacio won the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York last Friday. The international score makes Bacio a perfect four-for-four carrying the MyRacehorse silks, and Ward will look to extend that streak as he takes on the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Hedge Ratio will break from post 3 in Race 10 on Saturday at Fairmount Park. Post time 5:15 p.m. CT (6:15 p.m. ET).
