After an extraordinary 53 years of dedicated service, Thomas “Tommie” Sullivan has officially retired from the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

A Lifetime of Service

Tommie Sullivan’s journey with Mathews-Dickey began even before the leadership of Martin Mathews, making him the organization’s longest-serving employee. Over the course of five decades, Tom devoted his life to empowering youth and strengthening the community.

Working closely with Martin Mathews, Tom played a pivotal role in bringing the Club’s vision to life. Together, they carried forward the legacy established by founders Martin Luther Mathews and Hubert “Dickey” Ballentine, ensuring that the Club remained a beacon of hope and opportunity for children and families in the St. Louis area.

Transforming Lives Through Leadership

Tom’s leadership was instrumental in expanding programs that have positively impacted thousands of children and families. His efforts extended beyond programming, as he played a key role in major fundraising initiatives that secured the facilities and athletic fields still in use today.

Known for his steady guidance and deep institutional knowledge, Tom emphasized the importance of character development through the 3 R’s — Respect, Restraint, and Responsibility. These core values continue to shape the lives of countless youth, staff, and volunteers who have been touched by the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club.

A Legacy of Gratitude

As Tom steps into retirement, his family extends heartfelt gratitude to the colleagues, partners, and community members who supported him throughout his remarkable journey. His unwavering commitment to the mission of Mathews-Dickey has left an indelible mark on the organization and the community it serves.

The Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club remains committed to honoring Tom’s legacy by continuing to provide transformative programs and opportunities for youth. To learn more about the Club’s mission and ongoing initiatives, visit bgcstl.org.
