The Empowerment Network Inc. St. Louis: Men Beating The Odds: The Empowerment Network’s Fight for Health Equity

Did you know that a powerful chapter of Black history was written right here in St. Louis through The Empowerment Network Inc. St. Louis (TEN)? For nearly two decades, this organization has been a beacon of hope, health, and healing for Black men and their families.

In 2008, The Empowerment Network Inc. St. Louis made history by launching the first prostate cancer support group specifically for men of color in the City of St. Louis. At a time when few spaces existed for Black men to openly discuss prostate cancer, healing, and survivorship, TEN stepped forward boldly, compassionately, and unapologetically. Their efforts created a safe space for men to share their experiences and find strength in community.

A Historic Milestone in Black Men’s Health

Prostate cancer disproportionately affects Black men at higher and more aggressive rates, making TEN’s work not just important but life-saving. The impact of their support group was immediate and profound.

In the same year, the American Cancer Society honored The Empowerment Network with the prestigious Dr. Harold P. Freeman Award. This recognition highlighted their innovative and life-changing services, which uplifted not only men battling prostate cancer but also their families—psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Today, this support group stands as one of the largest in the nation for men of color. It continues to address health disparities while fostering a sense of brotherhood and strength.

18 Years of Empowerment and Excellence

For 18 years, The Empowerment Network Inc. St. Louis has been a pillar of support in the community. Thousands of men and families have found hope, healing, education, and strength through their services. Lives have been saved, and outcomes have been transformed.

Moreover, history continues to be made as TEN’s work gains national recognition. Their unwavering commitment to health equity and community empowerment has set a standard for others to follow.

National Recognition: ā€œMen Beating The Oddsā€

The groundbreaking work of The Empowerment Network is now featured in the new 12-part documentary series, ā€œMen Beating The Odds.ā€ This series shines a spotlight on the resilience and strength of Black men facing prostate cancer and the transformative impact of TEN’s support group.

This is more than a story. It is a movement. It is a testament to the power of community and the importance of addressing health disparities head-on.
