The 2024 Summer Olympics will be here before you know it, and when that time does come, some of the WNBA’s top stars will be in action.

USA Basketball recently announced its women’s roster for the upcoming Olympics. It will feature its share of returning players, but also a few first time players. And whether they are new or returning, they all have a common goal. They want to bring home the gold.

This year’s roster will feature returning players like Las Vegas Aces’ own A’ja Wilson (who is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year), Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, Las Vegas guard Chelsea Gray, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner, Seattle Storm star Jewell Loyd, reigning MVP Breanna Stewart and Mercury veteran Diana Taurasi.

As far as new additions, Mercury guard Kahleah Copper, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas will be on the USA roster for the first time. Aces players Jackie Young and Kelsey Plum are also on the roster, and while they were not on the 2020 Olympic roster, they were members of the 2020 Olympic 3×3 tournament team.

USA won gold in the 2020 Olympics, as they beat Japan 90-75. This was their ninth gold medal in history. USA’s first Olympic gold medal was in 1984. USA also has a 70-3 record in Olympic play.

This is a talented roster that has what it takes to win. There was a bit of controversy, as many were surprised to see Caitlin Clark left off the roster. However, according to Shams Charnia, Clark and Brionna Jones (of the Sun) the top two alternates for the team.

The WNBA season is underway, and many of the players on this roster are off to strong starts. If they continue to play at a high level, they will be ready come Olympic time.
