Atlanta’s downtown Woodruff Park is shimmering with creativity once again as the ‘PRISM: Winter Lights’ exhibit returns for another captivating season. This free outdoor display, curated by the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID) in collaboration with Dashboard, features mesmerizing light and water-based installations that will run through January 31.
This year’s exhibition embraces the theme of water, with installations that combine light artistry and aquatic visuals. Among the four installations on display, three are uniquely light-based, and one features a stunning water element at the International Peace Water Wall. All works have been crafted by local artists, ensuring a uniquely Atlanta flavor to the exhibit.
One of the standout pieces is “Atlantis Rising” by artist Ellex Swavoni, an Afro-futuristic monument inspired by the legend of Atlantis and the brilliance of deep-sea rainbow squids. The towering figure depicts an Afro-centric woman rising from the ground, radiating energy and power. The colors of the figure shift throughout the day, transitioning from vibrant reds and golds in the daylight to deep purples, teals, and blues at night.
Another must-see installation is “Bear Off” by artist Jason Sweet, a dazzling sculpture made from welded steel, canoes, enamel paint, and LED lights. This eye-catching work highlights the imaginative merging of everyday materials with the magic of light to create something extraordinary.
Visitors can experience the water projections from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly, set to a continuous loop that adds an enchanting ambiance to the park. Whether you’re marveling at the lighting artistry or soaking in the community spirit, PRISM promises something for everyone.
