I’m not sure about you all, but April is about to be gone in the blink of an eye. Time is flying so quickly that May will be here before we know it. And honestly, I’m here for it—especially since Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

It’s one of my most cherished holidays because I still have my mom in my life, despite the daily challenges we face. If you’re fortunate enough to still have your mom with you, make sure to celebrate this special day and show her how much she means to you.

Two of the top promoters in St. Louis always go all out during this joyful month, and I wanted to share their upcoming events with you. You all know St. Louis’s own Denise Thimes—she will be celebrating her family’s legacy with The Mildred Thimes Foundation’s 30th Anniversary Concert, happening on Mother’s Day at the Sheldon Concert Hall.

The venue is located at 3648 Washington Ave in Grandel Square. It promises to be a fantastic evening of music, remembrance, and delicious food. Be sure to check out the flyer for more details!

My good friend Tony Stephen, whom I have been knowing since our early promoting day, also will be welcoming in Mother’s Day on May 9th at his wonderful venue called Almost Picasso a Paint & Sip Studio in Ferguson,MO. Here is what he has to say about this artsy affair:
“Our 5th annual Pre Mother’s Day Brunch & Brushes event will be the most fun of them all. Mom’s, daughter’s and friends will get together to enjoy a light bunch, listen to music, enjoy great conversations and create a masterpiece to take home to remember the memories.”

Mother’s Day holds significant importance in Black communities for several reasons:

  1. Honoring Maternal Figures: It is a time to honor and appreciate mothers, grandmothers, and maternal figures who have played vital roles in nurturing and supporting families and communities.
  2. Celebrating Resilience and Strength: Black mothers often face unique challenges due to social, economic, and systemic issues. Celebrating Mother’s Day becomes an opportunity to recognize their resilience, strength, and contributions despite these obstacles.
  3. Cultural and Historical Significance: Historically, Black women have been central to community building, activism, and cultural preservation. Mother’s Day serves as a moment to acknowledge their leadership and sacrifices.
  4. Promoting Family and Community Bonds: The day emphasizes the importance of family, community, and interconnectedness, which are core values in many Black cultures.
  5. Highlighting Social Issues: It also provides a platform to raise awareness about issues affecting Black mothers, such as health disparities, economic challenges, and access to resources, advocating for support and change.

Overall, Mother’s Day is a meaningful occasion for Black communities to celebrate maternal figures, recognize their contributions, and address ongoing social issues affecting families.

In closing, we hope you’re well. Enjoy Mother’s Day with your mom, whether at an event or your own plans. Stay safe and take care. Best wishes from The Narrative Matters.
