On Friday, September 18, 2026, St. Louis will honor that kind of legacy. The T.A.B. Company, located at 5561 Enright Avenue in the historic West End, is hosting an exclusive exhibition celebrating the career and vision of internationally acclaimed Ghanaian painter Sami Bentil.

Titled “The Art and Living Legacy of Sami Bentil,” the evening brings together collectors, cultural leaders, and community members. Original paintings and rare limited-edition prints will be available for acquisition, offering an extraordinary window into an artist whose journey connects West Africa to the heart of the American Midwest.

As the co-founder of Jah’z Art Private Gallery, he established a premier destination for African and African Diaspora fine art. His community footprints run deep across the metropolitan landscape. He has collaborated closely with the Regional Arts Commission’s Community Arts Training Program, helped unify local creative entrepreneurs through the Alliance of Black Owned Galleries, and supported vital grassroots initiatives like Restoration Community Development, the Bentils’ Community Garden Project, All Colors, and Hands Up, Don’t Shoot.

He understands that community vitality and cultural expression go hand in hand. Investing in regional arts is not simply about decor; it is about building local wealth, identity, and neighborhood resilience.

Turning Perception into Power

Born in Ghana and color-blind from birth, Bentil faced what many would call an impossible hurdle for a visual creator. Instead, he turned that unique perspective into a signature artistic identity. Guided by instinct, tactile sensitivity, and deep spiritual memory, his pieces stand out for their complex pointillist textures, symbolic depth, and profound emotional weight.

Bentil sharpened his craft studying Graphic Design at Ghana’s renowned University of Science and Technology, studying under the iconic Ghanaian master Kofi Antubam. His visual language pulls deeply from Akan folklore, traditional Ghanaian symbolism, and Pan-African philosophies, speaking directly to shared human experiences of faith, perseverance, and unity.

That visual mastery commands global respect. His work has hung in premier galleries and public institutions across the United States, England, Switzerland, and Germany. One of his defining early commissions, created for the Government of Ghana to commemorate the nation’s Silver Jubilee, sits on permanent exhibition at the National Museum of Ghana.
