Her innovative approach to hair care and face products did more than change beauty standards. It also provided economic opportunities for thousands of African American women. Specifically, through her Poro system, she trained agents who could achieve financial independence. In doing so, she proved that the business of beauty could change the world.

A Heart for the Community: The St. Louis Colored Orphans’ Home

• The Administrative Building: Located at 2612 Annie Malone Drive, this structure requires modernization. It needs to continue serving as the hub for the agency’s critical work.
• The Homer G. Phillips Hospital Nurses’ Quarters: This neighboring historic structure is part of a broader vision for community revitalization.
