“How the Higher Education Consortium is Shaping St. Louis’s Academic Future

Are you looking for a new career or considering a return to school but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you need help finding scholarship funds. The Higher Education Consortium of Metropolitan St. Louis (HEC) is a key organization committed to connecting people with these exact opportunities. By serving as a vital link between students and educational institutions, HEC champions access, support, and success in higher learning throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.

TRIO Educational Opportunity Programs

HEC manages three federally funded TRIO Programs designed to provide essential services to participants. These services range from academic support to financial guidance. The specific programs include the TRIO Educational Talent Search, TRIO Upward Bound, and the TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC). Through these initiatives, HEC focuses on expanding access to higher education. Furthermore, the consortium ensures participants get the tools they need to succeed.

Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC)

  • Guidance on the college admissions process
  • Advising on financial aid options
  • Assistance with basic financial literacy and planning

Ultimately, the mission of the EOC is clear: to increase access to quality post-secondary education. It also equips participants with the financial and academic tools needed for success.

Everyone Deserves Access to Higher Education

Have you ever been told that “college isn’t for everyone”? While a traditional four-year college may not suit every individual, everyone deserves access to post-secondary education that is tailored to their career goals. Higher education includes more than just universities; it also covers trade schools, certificate programs, and community colleges. These pathways help individuals achieve both personal and professional success.

You are certainly “education material.” The real goal is to find a higher education path that aligns with your personal aspirations. Such a path can empower you to realize and even exceed your ambitions.

Who We Serve

The TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) provide free, personalized advising and resources. These services are for qualifying adults who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. Specifically, the centers aim to remove barriers to education by offering services such as:

HEC proudly serves participants across the greater St. Louis metropolitan region. This area includes St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and neighboring counties like Madison, St. Clair, and Clinton in Illinois. Each year, HEC supports more than 859 middle and high school students and 4,000 adult learners. This impact is made possible through strong partnerships with schools, institutions of higher learning, and various community organizations.
