A Groundbreaking Beginning
Anacostia Organics (AO) proudly opened its doors on January 24, 2019, becoming the first licensed medical cannabis dispensary located east of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC. After years of advocacy and navigating policy hurdles, AO’s establishment represented a huge milestone for underserved communities in Wards 7 and 8. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Mayor Muriel Bowser and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, marked the beginning of a mission to serve patients with high-quality cannabis products and to foster equity in an industry often criticized for its lack of diversity.
Leadership That Sets the Standard
Linda Mercado Greene, AO’s Owner, Board Chair, and CEO, is a trailblazer in the cannabis industry. One of the few 100% black woman-owned cannabis entrepreneurs in the U.S., Linda has played a pivotal role in shaping cannabis policies both locally and nationally. Through her leadership, Anacostia Organics became the first cannabis dispensary to be certified as a DSLBD Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) in DC.
Apart from running Anacostia Organics, Linda wears many hats. She chairs the DC Cannabis Trade Association and serves on the Board of the United States Cannabis Council, where she leads initiatives focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Linda’s influence extends to her podcast, “Cannabis Conversations,” the only government-funded cannabis program, where she educates listeners about cannabis-related topics.
A Unique Experience for DC’s Cannabis Patients
Anacostia Organics stands out for more than just its product offerings. The dispensary operates as a community hub, featuring a rotating art gallery showcasing local artists and embodying the character of Historic Anacostia. Patients visiting AO receive access to expertly curated cannabis medicine, detailed tasting notes, and some of the best customer service in the city.
When you visit Historic Anacostia, make Anacostia Organics part of your trip, along with landmarks like the Frederick Douglass House and the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum. More than a dispensary, it’s a place that uplifts and serves its community.
Building a Legacy
Under Linda Mercado Greene’s exceptional vision, Anacostia Organics is transforming access to medical cannabis while advocating for social equity in the industry. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, discover how AO is contributing to positive change and supporting community health in DC.
