A political party is facing internal division as they pressure their nominee to step aside, raising concerns for the upcoming election.
Articulated Insight – “News, Race and Culture in the Information Age”
The Democratic Party is weak. It is spineless. It is a party of too many elites and disloyal cowards, not only at times to Blacks but also apparently to incumbent presidents of the United States.
Just ask Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision that former President Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for some actions while in the White House. The ruling has significant implications for the criminal case by the federal government’s criminal charges against Trump for, among other cases, plotting to overthrow the 2020 election.
Republicans remain united behind him.
On January 6, 2021, the former president, Donald Trump, inspired and encouraged his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol. On this day, Members of Congress were meeting to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities by certifying electoral votes across the United States.
Republicans are united in their support of Trump.
As his supporters broke windows and doors and beat U.S. Capitol and Washington Metropolitan Police Department officers with their fists and other weapons, including American and Confederate flags, Trump, according to several aides who testified before Congress under oath, sat in a room off from the Oval Office and did nothing.
Republicans Senators remain united behind him.
The twice impeached Trump has been found guilty by a jury of sexually abusing columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996. New York State Attorney General Latisha James won a landmark civil fraud decision against the Trump Organization, which has been ordered to pay $450 million for defrauding the state. Close to 20 women have accused Trump of sexual harassment or sexual assault.
Still, Republican House Members are united in their support of Trump.
But, despite all of the above criminality and treasonous behavior, the Grand Old Party (GOP), now officially the Trump Old Party (TOP), will formally nominate Trump as its nominee in less than two weeks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The GOP/TOP is united behind the 45th president, including many Members of Congress who ran for their lives during the insurrection.
To Republicans, what are 34 indictments when their nominee faces another 55? Nothing.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, after a disastrous debate on June 27, the Democratic Party is in complete disarray. There are growing demands for President Biden to step aside less than 40 days before its national convention in Chicago and the general election in less than 120 days.
So much for loyalty by Democrats.
As Congress returns from the July 4 recess, the top issue on the agenda is not passing legislation to improve the lives of everyday Americans but whether President Biden will remain the Democratic nominee.
There is too much at stake in November. There is no time for a divided convention or internal friction within the Democratic Party Family. American Democracy is on the line.
If you are tired of one or both political parties, have no fear because November 5 may be the last American election. Fed up with choosing between “the lesser of two evils?” After November 5, your only choice may be an evil dictator.
No one can deny President Biden performed poorly during the CNN debate against Trump. He often appeared confused and disoriented, frequently spoke incoherently, and needed help completing his sentences.
On the other hand, Trump also spoke incoherently but passionately, as he lied at least 30 times and did not deny political retribution for his political enemies if reelected. He has called jailed January 6 insurrectionists “political prisoners.”
He only commits to accepting the election results next November if he wins.
Sound familiar, America?
One candidate is an old and evil felon, a convicted sexual predator with no concern for anyone but himself, including no respect for the ideals on which this country was founded.
The other is old with a heart, compassion, an unstable walk, and a frequent stutterer, yet a proven defender of American Democracy with a long and distinguished career in public service.
Biden/Harris versus Trump and his vice-presidential pick are our options, and they should remain so.
Ninety uninspiring and alarming minutes on a debate stage versus 3 ½ years of accomplishments.
One lousy summer night in June versus dictatorship coming to America forever.
On November 5, vote as if your life depends on it because it does for all Americans, especially Black Americans.
