- The youth soccer program at the Decatur Family YMCA was the first of its kind in the US more than 50 years ago.
- Basketball was invented at the YMCA Training College in Springfield, Massachusetts by James Naismith in 1891.
- And volleyball was invented at The Greater Holyoke YMCA in 1895.
