A transformative initiative is serving up major opportunities for local culinary entrepreneurs in Chicago. The Economic Development Center (EDC) at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA)—in partnership with the Lewis Innovation Hub and the Center for Changing Lives (CCL)—has launched its inaugural Top Foodpreneur Pitch Competition Accelerator, a dynamic program designed to turn culinary vision into sustainable business growth.

The six-week intensive accelerator offers food business founders tailored, industry-specific training to scale their concepts and master the fundamentals of the marketplace. Participants have navigated a comprehensive curriculum tackling essential commercial pillars:

  • Week 1 (Storytelling & Leadership): Brand narrative craft and customer communication.
  • Week 2 (Product Development & Tech): Recipe validation, specialized packaging, and ghost kitchens.
  • Week 3 (Marketing & GovCon): Social media strategy, food safety certifications, and government contracting.
  • Week 4 (Finance & Funding): Unit economics, margin analysis, and securing non-dilutive capital.
  • Week 5 (Operations & Scaling): Food compliance, human resources, and sustainable operations.
  • Week 6 (Pitch Prep): High-stakes coaching sessions to refine presentations for judges.

The Stakes: Graduation and Pitch Day

The program reaches its climax on Thursday, September 10, 2026, running from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Lewis University’s St. Augustine College campus in Uptown, Chicago.

Following the graduation ceremony, nine selected finalists will take the stage to pitch their business ventures before a live panel of judges. At stake is $30,000 in total cash prizes to fund operations and fuel expansion:

  • Second Place: $8,000
