For nearly five decades, the Upsilon Omega Foundation has embraced a mission rooted in service, leadership, and community advancement. Now, the St. Louis organization is preparing to celebrate a defining chapter in its history. This milestone represents financial freedom, renewed facilities, and a strengthened commitment to future generations.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Foundation will host the Grand Reopening of the Omega Center from 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The center is located at 3900 Goodfellow Boulevard in St. Louis.

Under the theme “A Stronger Commitment. A Lasting Impact,” the celebration will recognize the Foundation’s achievements. The event will acknowledge the individuals and organizations that helped make them possible. It will also introduce a revitalized community facility designed to serve generations to come.

“The Omega Center is part of an underserved community,” says John Bowman, the foundation’s former vice president and spokesperson. “This is proof of what can happen when people unite, especially the brotherhood, and start to be responsible for the growth and well-being of their own.”

A $1 million grant from the St. Louis Redevelopment Corporation made the renovation possible. Over the years, the building has hosted numerous community and social events, including the popular Thursday Night Bingo.

The foundation purchased the building in 2000. Once a UAW Hall and Kroger Supermarket, the center was old and badly in need of repairs before the work began. Now it features new air conditioning units, a new roof, remodeled bathrooms, an improved parking lot, and extensive structural upgrades.

“The brothers put sweat equity into it,” Bowman says. “We went in there, the members themselves, and we painted.”

From Vision to Mortgage Freedom

Among the celebration’s most significant moments will be the ceremonial burning of the Omega Center’s mortgage. This ceremony offers a symbolic declaration of financial independence and honors the organization’s perseverance in retiring the debt.

The foundation originally purchased the property for $300,000. Bowman notes that the final payoff payment was $45,000.

The milestone represents far more than retiring a debt obligation. It reflects years of dedication, strategic planning, generosity, and the collective determination of members committed to securing the Foundation’s future.

“Ain’t nothing like owning your own; that’s a lesson my father taught me as a kid. Own your own house or property. Don’t rent,” Bowman recalls. “We are so excited not only about the renovation, which is a really big deal, but about the brothers taking it upon themselves to raise money out of their pockets to pay off that debt. We will walk away with a title.”

Brother Edwin Bailey will lead a historical presentation detailing the property purchase, the original vision behind the investment, and the road to mortgage freedom. The program will also recognize the mortgage donors whose personal financial contributions turned this ambitious goal into a reality.

The ceremonial mortgage burning takes place at 1:40 p.m., bringing together Foundation leadership, board members, and community supporters to commemorate the achievement.

Transforming a Building, Strengthening a Community

Beyond its debt-free milestone, the Foundation is celebrating the physical transformation of the physical space.

A special video presentation will showcase the facility’s renovations. The footage highlights upgrades designed to enhance the building’s functionality, appearance, and overall capacity to serve North St. Louis.

Foundation President Aziz Rahim Muhammad will present an overview of the City of St. Louis grant process. His remarks will detail the partnerships, project phases, and key leaders instrumental in completing the renovation.

For the Foundation, the upgraded center represents an ongoing investment in people, programs, partnerships, and neighborhood possibilities.

“The Omega Center is an impact center in the heart of an under-resourced community. Everything from rentals for people, wedding receptions, to repasses, town hall meetings, reunions, political forums, free tax services, and other community events can be held there,” Muhammad says. “We provide a low-cost venue for individuals in the community.”

Honoring Leadership and Community Partnerships

Throughout the afternoon, the Foundation will honor the individuals whose leadership and service propelled the mission forward.

Foundation board members, chapter leadership, elected officials, community partners, and distinguished guests will participate in the program. Presentations will focus on the organization’s legacy, the building’s physical rebirth, and upcoming initiatives for the neighborhood.

Formal recognitions will highlight public officials, corporate partners, and grassroots supporters who helped advance the project from concept to completion.

Building Tomorrow, Serving Today

Established in 1979, the Upsilon Omega Foundation anchors its work in four core principles: People, Programs, Partnerships, and Progress.

As the Foundation prepares to open its doors to neighbors and civic leaders, its overarching message reflects an enduring belief in collective community action: “Building People. Stronger Communities. Brighter Tomorrows.”

For the Upsilon Omega Foundation, reopening the Omega Center goes far beyond finishing a construction punch list. It marks the launch of a new era of service and an enduring commitment to investing in the future of St. Louis.
