I have a business idea. Can you help me start my business?
Yes. CMAA actively assists aspiring entrepreneurs in turning concepts into operational businesses. Advisors work with you to test your concept, formulate a comprehensive business plan, register your legal entity, obtain local business licenses, and explore initial financing options to get your venture off the ground.
What does SBDC do? What does APEX do?
CMAA hosts two key business programs funded in part through state and federal partnerships:
- Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC): Focuses on commercial success in the private sector. It provides no-cost, direct consulting on management, financial projections, loan readiness, marketing, and expansion strategies for startups and established firms.
- Illinois APEX Accelerator (formerly PTAC): Focuses on government contracting. It helps small businesses navigate federal, state, and local procurement systems, obtain certifications (such as minority-owned or women-owned designations), identify government contract opportunities, and bid effectively.
Are the services confidential?
Yes. All consultations and advisory services provided through CMAA’s Small Business Development Center and APEX Accelerator are held in strict professional confidence. Your financial records, business ideas, proprietary processes, and client intake details remain private and are not shared outside the program without your permission.
