ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Sept. 29, 2026) … The region’s transit advocacy organization Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) is encouraging more people to leave their cars behind and experience the benefits of public transit through the launch of Transit Tuesdays, a new monthly initiative challenging area residents to take transit on the first Tuesday of every month. The campaign kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in conjunction with Week Without Driving, a national initiative that encourages individuals and communities to better understand the challenges faced by those who cannot rely on a personal vehicle for daily transportation.
During the morning commute on Oct. 6, CMT staff and volunteer street teams will visit Metro Transit Park-Ride locations across the region to distribute complimentary one-day transit passes for new riders to park and ride. Information about CMT programs designed to make taking transit easier than ever will also be made available. Participants will learn about the Try & Ride program, offering personalized assistance for first-time riders, and the Guaranteed Ride Home program, providing a reliable ride home in the event of an unexpected emergency or unscheduled overtime.
Area commuters new to transit can also visit www.TransitTuesdays.com to get a free, one-day transit pass (while supplies last) and register for monthly giveaways – including gift cards, a 30-day Metro Transit pass valued at $78 and additional transit-related prizes. The website will be updated regularly with information about upcoming Transit Tuesday events and promotions.
“Transit Tuesdays is about making transit a habit and helping people discover how easy, affordable and convenient it can be,” said Kimberly Cella, CEO of Citizens for Modern Transit. “Whether it’s for work, play or any time of day, we invite area residents to get on board transit on the first Tuesday of each month and experience the benefits firsthand.”
