Join Walmart and Best Friends Animal Society this May for National Pet Month! Attend our “Give Love. Save Lives.” adoption events across the country, including St. Louis, and help shelter dogs and cats find loving homes.
In celebration of National Pet Month this May, Walmart and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up again to help dogs and cats in shelters across the country find loving homes. Throughout the month, Walmart and Best Friends will host “Give Love. Save Lives.” adoption events in communities nationwide, including right here in St. Louis.

Dogs and cats from Animal Protective Association of Missouri will be available and in search of new homes at the Walmart Supercenter in Shrewsbury. All pet adoption fees will be waived. Animal Protective Association of Missouri is one of Best Friends’ 6,000 shelter and rescue group partners around the country.
Event attendees will also have the chance to win a year’s supply of pet food from Blue Buffalo and a prize pack of goodies valued at $2,000 from leading pet brand partners, including: Blue Buffalo, Fresh Step, NUTRISH, Pedigree, Temptations, Nylabone, Sulfodene, ADAMS Botanicals, Purina, PetArmor, Lucky One, Fi, Dogsters, Comfort Zone, Churu, Capstar, Levoit and Spruce. No purchase is necessary to enter. Attendees will also receive Best Friends swag and information on how to help homeless pets in their community.

Why: There are thousands of pets in shelters across the country who need a safe place to call home. The good news is that anyone can save a life by choosing to adopt. According to Best Friends’ 2025 data, if an additional one out of every 1,500 households in Missouri chose to adopt a pet next year from a shelter, the entire state would become no-kill, which means saving every healthy and treatable pet.
