Thomas Markwell, a name in the game,
Senior director of events, but he brought the shame.
From June ’21 to September ’23,
He misused his position, fraud on the spree.

Nathan Boyd, co-owner of the gift biz,
Inflated invoices, made fraud his quiz.
Joanna Dettman, aka St. Gemme,
A contractor in the scheme, playing the same.

Markwell approved invoices, over a million in fake,
From a St. Louis company, all for the take.
Boyd and Dettman, they played their part,
Fictitious expenses, a criminal art.

GEM Consulting, Dettman’s LLC,
Issued $100K in fraud, as plain as can be.
Markwell’s romantic partners, fictitious names,
Half a mil billed, all part of the games.

Another $180K, from a partner’s fake biz,
Markwell’s share of the loot, that’s how it is.
But the FBI watched, the Marshals closed in,
Justice Department’s net, pulling them in.

Now Markwell’s extradited, Boyd and Dettman plead,
Wire fraud and identity theft, their crimes indeed.
The courtroom waits, the charges are set,
But guilt’s not proven—there’s a trial yet.

From heartbreaking losses to shocking crimes, these stories paint a sobering picture of the challenges facing our communities. Let’s hope for justice, healing, and a safer tomorrow.
