Blossom Wood Day School: Shaping Young Minds Through Education and Community Impact

In August 1998, Mikia Pollard, a visionary educator, opened the doors to Blossom Wood Day School in her home. With just 11 students and a dream to create a school that combined advanced academics, character development, and small class sizes, she laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of education in Hazelwood, Missouri.

Over the years, Blossom Wood has grown from a single classroom to a state-of-the-art campus at 7200 Howdershell Rd. The school’s journey is marked by milestones like becoming the first African American-founded school to join the Independent Schools of the Central States and Independent Schools of St. Louis Associations. Today, Blossom Wood serves preschool through sixth grade, offering a rigorous curriculum and a nurturing environment.

Fun Fact: The school’s first Annual Benefit Dinner raised funds for its first exterior sign, a symbol of its growing presence in the community.

How You Can Help: Volunteer, donate, or attend events like the Annual Golf Tournament to support Blossom Wood’s mission. Call (314) 838-7400 for details.

Meet Mika Pollard

Mikia Pollard, founder and Head of School at Blossom Wood Day School, has built a legacy of excellence in independent education since starting the school in her Florissant condo in 1998. What began as a small group of 11 kindergartners has grown into a thriving institution with 75 students and a dedicated school building in Hazelwood. Pollard’s vision focuses on providing advanced academics, fostering community involvement, and building strong character in a nurturing, Christian environment. As the only African-American-founded school in the Independent Schools of St. Louis, Blossom Wood continues to attract families seeking a high-quality, values-driven education. Pollard’s dedication and the school’s success are a testament to her passion for creating “A Great Place to Learn.”
