What Is the Best Buy Scholarship Program?

A Competitive Award for Pathways Program Members

The Best Buy Scholarship is available exclusively to eligible students participating in the Pathways program. It is a highly competitive award that provides significant financial support to help students pursue higher education and meaningful career opportunities.

Not every student who applies earns this recognition. Winning reflects both academic dedication and a sustained commitment to personal development.

How the Scholarship Supports Youth Education

This student scholarship is designed to reduce financial barriers to college. The $40,000 award gives recipients the resources to focus on their studies, career goals, and long-term growth.

For many students from underserved communities, this kind of youth scholarship support can be the difference between attending college and missing the opportunity altogether.

How BGCSTL Programs Set These Students Apart

The Pathways Program: Building Career-Ready Young Adults

All four recipients participate in BGCSTL’s Pathways program, which focuses on developing leadership, workforce readiness, and career skills in young people preparing for life after high school.

The program provides structured guidance, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences. It connects students with the tools they need to succeed — not just in school, but throughout their careers.

The St. Louis Internship Program

In addition to Pathways, each recipient is involved in the St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP). This program gives students real-world professional experience while they are still in high school.

Together, these two programs create a clear pipeline from youth development to college readiness. They help students build confidence, networks, and career skills that make them competitive scholarship candidates.

What BGCSTL Leadership Says About This Achievement

Brandon Williams, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, spoke directly to the significance of this recognition:

“This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work, determination and dedication these students have demonstrated throughout their academic journeys. We are proud to celebrate their success and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in college, their careers and their communities.”

His statement underscores what the organization believes: that the right programs, paired with student effort, produce transformational outcomes.

Why This Recognition Matters for Youth in St. Louis

A Spotlight on Workforce Readiness Programs

The success of these four students puts a spotlight on what BGCSTL’s youth development model is achieving. Programs like Pathways and SLIP are not just extracurricular offerings — they are structured pathways to real opportunity.

Earning a Best Buy Scholarship is a direct result of the skills, confidence, and connections these students built through those programs.

What Great Futures Looks Like

BGCSTL uses the phrase “Great Futures” to describe the long-term vision for every young person in its clubs. These four college scholarships recipients are living proof that this vision is more than a tagline.

They leave high school not just with a diploma, but with experience, mentorship, and now significant financial support to carry them forward.
