The WNBA season started a week ago, and already, some players are off to a great start. Players are having great performances, and some players find themselves on top of the season league leaders already. And with so many talented players, it will be interesting to see how everything plays out. Here are the top scoring leaders in the WNBA so far.

1.) Breanna Stewart

Breanna Stewart is one of the top players in the league, and as she settles in with her new team, she has not lost a step. Stewart signed with the New York Liberty during the offseason, and the move made the Liberty one of the favorites going into the season. With a “big three” in Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquell Jones and Stewart, the Liberty are a team to watch out for. And Stewart has already made an impact.

Stewart is the league’s leading scorer as she averages 28.5 points. She tallied a double double in her first game of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Stewart had a phenomenal performance in her second game as she finished with a 45-point double double.

2.) Arike Ogunbowale

Arike Ogunbowale is off to a great start. In her first game of the season, she finished with 27 points and had three steals in the process. Her performance in the Dallas Wings’ season opener currently has her second behind Stewart in points per game (with 27.0). Ogunbowale is no stranger to putting up big numbers, and in her career, she has averaged 19.8 points. She will be a player to watch this season, and there is a good chance she will remain one of the top scorers in the league.

3.) Jackie Young

Jackie Young is a member of the Las Vegas Aces (the reigning champs), and currently she is their leading scorer. Young finished her first game with 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. Her second game was a special one, as she finished with a career-high 30 points. Young is third in the league in points per game with 26.5 points, and her performance to start the season makes the Aces an even tougher team.

4.) Satou Sabally

Satou Sabally is the second Dallas Wings player in the top five of the WNBA’s leading scorers. She also had a good game in the Wings’ season opener, as she finished the game with 25 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. This makes her fourth in scoring with 25.0 points. This was a great start for Sabally, and she could be on the verge of her best season.

5.) Jewell Loyd

Jewell Loyd is one of the league’s top players. She is a champion, an All-Star and with the departure of Brenna Stewart and the retirement of Sue Bird, Loyd has an even bigger role for the Storm. Loyd is fifth in scoring as she averages 22.0 points.

The Storm will look different this year (due to their departures), and with Loyd being such a talented player, she will likely remain one of the league’s top scorers.

Honorable mention: Brittney Griner

Brittney Griner is off to a good start this season, and it is great to see. She made her return to the floor on opening day of the WNBA season, and she received a standing ovation. She finished that game with 18 points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Griner made her home debut against the Chicago Sky two days later, and she finished the game with 27 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Then, in the game after she had 19 points and eight rebounds.

Griner has not lost a step, and as it currently stands, she is sixth in points per game with an average of 21.3 points. The season is still young, and like other players on this list, Griner will likely remain near the top.
