The Rams believe they have the QB to properly run their system, a defense that can get folks off the field. So, is OBJ the last piece of the puzzle of a championship team? Or is this the last stop and part 3 of a cautionary tale of a wasted talent.

Could the land of Hollywood and its dazzling spotlights be the boost Odell Beckman Jr., needs to re-invent his game? Here is a look at how it all got started in Los Angeles’ splashy suburb.

After 3 frustrating seasons in Cleveland, the Browns released Odell Beckham Jr. While clearing waivers, he has once again invaded the open market.

Firstly, his contract could never get picked up by any team. But Beckham Jr., was able to land a deal with the Los Angeles Rams. Hopefully, a third and final team for now.

Over the top personality

Pound for pound in terms of hands, speed, and ability to get open, and there probably few players that are as talented as OBJ. Butfor the second time his over sized personality has been a major factor in moving to a new city.

Beckham was very productive in New York as the receiver putting up gawky numbers. He repeatedly managed to rub his quarterback, the locker room and management the wrong way.

Money in his pocket

Additionally, he was receiving a hefty contract extension from the New York Giants (5 years 90 million dollars 65 million guaranteed). He has been an outspoken critic of Eli Manning, whose skills were diminishing as Eli’s best days were behind him by the time OBJ had arrived.

The lengthy list of events that go as follows:

June 2014 – A fake fiancé scandal, in which included a woman parading herself as OBJ’s fiancé.

December 2015 – Fight between Josh Norman begins with both fighting and fussing back and forth until finally OBJ was ejected for his role in their in-game melee.

September 2016 – OBJ throws a tantrum and a special relationship with a kicking net starts with Beckham throwing his helmet into the net and the net reacting and hitting him in the face.

January 2017 – After the regular season OBJ and some of his teammates are photographed hanging out in South Beach. During the week before a playoff game, in which Beckham played terribly. Many sources believed the excessive partying during the week probably affected his play.

In 2018, Beckham was photographed with a woman in Paris where marijuana was pictured. Giants ownership was terribly upset at that development and was non-committal about OBJ staying with the team.

Sources got the beat

A source familiar with the situation said of the trade of Beckham to the Browns, “He had become too much of a pain in the ass” “And there was a real fear that eventually it would get worse.”

After all of that acrimony OBJ was traded to Cleveland to be part of a very talented offense. OBJ had one 1,000 season, along with 75 catches in first year.

His statistics went down dramatically after that, because of miscommunications and a not so great relationship with his quarterback Baker Mayfield. The history of having bad knees also figures in his equation.

Clock ran out

OBJ’s time in Cleveland pretty much ran out when Beckham Jr’s father put out a video pressing the Browns organization including the first string QB Mayfield to throw it to his son. This led to his release and now in a win or go home setting that the Rams are all in for 2021, as they traded for Matt Stafford and also traded for Jalen Ramsey and Von Miler over the last couple of seasons.

The Rams

The Rams believe they have the QB to properly run their system, a defense that can get folks off the field. So, is OBJ the last piece of the puzzle of a championship team? Or is this the last stop and part 3 of a cautionary tale of a wasted talent.

A talent whose attitude, behavior and lack of people skills kept him from being a Hall of Fame candidate and championship player.

If I were a Sports-god I would be Making Changes across the board

Hey NFL, please stop subjecting us to Thanksgiving football games in Detroit!!!  The Lions are annually awful, why must we do this every year.  There are other teams with domes, if they need the game to be inside, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Houston.  Tradition is not a logical reason to continue to do something.  Logic at some point has to take over at the NFL offices.
