Top Gun: Maverick

In this 2022 American action-drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski, Tom Cruise returns as Pete’ Maverick’ Mitchell to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (“Top Gun”). After thirty years in service as a top Navy aviator, he must confront the ghosts of his past as he trains a group of Top Gun graduates (among them the son of his late best friend “Goose”) for a special mission. The film has received widespread critical praise, and many reviewers consider it superior to its predecessor. 

Emergency

Directed by Carey Williams, this 2022 American comedy-drama thriller film is adapted from a screenplay by KD Dávila. It follows three college students, Kunle (Donald Elise Watkins), Sean (RJ Cyler), and Carlos (Sebastian Chacon), who, while preparing for a night of legendary partying, find an unconscious woman in their apartment. Scared of being suspected of wrongdoing by the police, they try to get the woman to safety without causing suspicion. The result is a hilarious, chaotic, and tension-filled chase all over town as the trio struggles to take the lady to safety despite their differences. Movie critic, Roger Ebert says that this is a dazzling movie, all the more so for being made on a seemingly tiny budget.

The Northman

Based on the legend of Amleth, this 2022 American epic historical film was directed by Robert Eggers and co-written with Sjón. The plot follows Prince Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård), whose father, King Aurvandill (Ethan Hawke), is slain, and his mother, Queen Gudrún (Nicole Kidman), kidnapped by his uncle Fjölnir (Claes Bang) while the prince is still young. Decades later, a musclebound Amleth disguises himself as a ruthless warrior in a clan of Viking berserkers and returns to avenge his father and save his mother. The Northman magnificently measures up to its untouchable reputation as an accurate Viking revenge tale. If you are devoted to familial honor, this film is certainly for you

Memory

Martin Campbell directs this 2022 action thriller. The plot follows an expert assassin Alex Lewis (Liam Neeson). He becomes a target after he refuses to complete a job for a dangerous criminal organization because it violates his code. He must then find and terminate those who hired him before they and FBI agent Vincent Serra (Guy Pearce) find him first. While Alex is built for revenge, his memory is beginning to falter, forcing him to question his actions, blurring the line between right and wrong.

Everything Everywhere All at Once 

Written and directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, this 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film centers on love and family. It stars Michelle Yeoh as a Chinese-American woman having trouble with the Internal Revenue Service due to suspicion of fraud. She discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse. The film features science fiction, martial arts, black comedy, and fantasy. Hence it has been described as a “swirl of genre anarchy.”
