With the Pfizer vaccine being approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), children aged 5 to 11 years will be getting the jab in no time. Muppets of “Sesame Street” have taken Twitter and the television to promote the vaccine.
On CNN via video chart, CNN Saturday town hall, The ABC’s of COVID-19 Vaccines: Rosita, Big Bird, Elmo, CNN reporter Erica Hill, and CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta talked about the vaccine.
Big Bird’s grandmother, Granny Bird, revealed that the lovable yellow bird would soon get the jab during the town hall.
And let’s be honest, who likes injections? I know I don’t. Big Bird, Elmo, Rosita, and Oscar, the Grouch, in a series of tweets after the town hall, demystified the COVID-19 vaccine. According to Big Bird, it isn’t too bad. Besides, it only made Big Bird’s wing a little sore.
“I got the Covid-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy.
Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!

Big Bird’s tweeted in a relatable way, letting children know that getting the COVID-19 vaccine is not only crucial for them but for others too. And just in case children were a little afraid of getting the vaccine, Big Bird tells them that getting the vaccine is like getting another vaccine.
On side-effects brought on the vaccine, Oscar the Grouch tweeted and tagged Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett:
“Well, this stinks. Apparently, the COVID-19 vaccines won’t make you feel grouchy at all! That’s what @KizzyPhD said at today’s town hall, anyway. You might get a sore arm and feel tired, so at least there’s that.

Five-year-old Rosita shared with CNN that she had received her first dose of the vaccine Saturday morning.
Their endorsement of the COVID-19 vaccine earned the Muppets commendation from the head of state, with President Joe Biden praising Big Bird for his decision. On the other hand, their endorsement ruffled a few feathers, pun very much intended, with some conservatives such as Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, calling the endorsement “Government propaganda.”
The Muppets campaign for the vaccine began earlier this year with an earlier show where Elmo and his dad Louie shared their excitement over getting the shot.
“We’re excited because lots of grownups are getting the COVID-19 vaccine,” Louie said. “Soon, lots of us will be able to do our favorite things again.”
