The road to renewal and restoration: It’s very important and necessary to have and live a healthy lifestyle.
One of the main sources to do so is by resting. Rest is simply relaxing stressful tension in order to improve health and prevent diseases. Perhaps a lot of us don’t know or understand what it is to rest.
Some may think it is to sleep, and others may think it is the end. But rest is very important in many factors that are very beneficial to you. This is a prescription that is needed for a better you.
There are moments of time when you become exhausted with things and you just feel the need to push back or simply step away from it for just a little bit. Well, that’s when the word “rest” can be utilized. Rest has a lot of different options of meanings, but at this point, I’m speaking about relaxing the mind and body for better health.
Stop working or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength.
The benefits of rest are:
- Better productivity and concentration
- Lower weight gain risk
- Calorie regulation stands at a good standard
- Greater athletic performance
- Lower risk of heart disease
- Ability to gain more social and emotional intelligence
- Depression prevention
While the body is asleep, your blood pressure goes down, giving the heart and blood vessels a bit of rest. The less amount of sleep that the body gets, the longer a person’s blood pressure will stay up. High blood pressure can cause heart disease, and according to the CDC, getting adequate rest every night will allow the body’s blood pressure to regulate itself.
Doing so can help reduce the chances of sleep-related conditions, leading to better heart health. Some of us can immediately see when we are worried about something, and it’s constantly on our minds that we are unable to relax. The state of being free from tension and anxiety is relaxation.
What’s the difference between rest and relaxation?
The difference between relaxation and rest is when using of the word relax, it means to calm down, whereas when using the word rest, it means to cease from action, motion, work, or performance of any kind. During these days and times we find ourselves not relaxing due to stress on the job or life in general.
The objective is to find relief from work or activity by sleeping or relaxing the mind, otherwise to rest. What’s the difference when you are resting versus sleeping? When you are resting you are giving your brain, muscles, and organs a little break from being in motion.
As for sleeping, it’s restorative. It’s the state where your body is repairing itself from any damages, healing, and regenerating the cellular level of the body.
Rest is a good way to relax, but it’s not the substitute for sleep. Although the words differ, they are needed to refresh your mind and body. So replenish yourself by simply taking a load off by relaxing your mind, body, and soul with rest. You will be thankful that you did!
Isaiah 30:15: This say it of the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel. In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.
